Proverbs 22:28, “Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set.”

It was 39 years ago, today (9/30/18), that I received the Lord Jesus Christ as my personal Saviour. And like the hymn writer so eloquently put to music and melody, “HEAVEN CAME DOWN AND GLORY FILLED MY SOUL!” I was birthed into the family of God, at the old Ambassador Baptist Church, Allen Park, MI. It was a fundamental, independent Baptist Church. As I look back on that life-changing and ETERNITY-altering hour, 12:20p.m., to be exact, I’m glad that the preacher and people of that New Testament Church didn’t trash the “ANCIENT LANDMARKS” that God used in that service to see me saved! (And they will still work to see others trust Christ, 39 years later.)

9 “LANDMARKS” that I still remember and rejoice over, in the service where I was reached for Christ:

1. GENUINELY HAPPY AND WARM CONGREGATION.

Colossians 3:14, “And above all these things put on charity, which is the bound of perfectness.”

2. SPIRITED HYMNS THAT WERE USED.

Mark 14:26, “And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the Mount of Olives.”

3. REVIVAL FRIENDLY SPECIAL MUSIC.

Ephesians 5:19, “Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;”

4. A MAN OF GOD, WHO LOOKED LIKE IT.

2 Kings 4:9, “And she said unto her husband, Behold now, I perceive that this is an holy man of God, which passeth by us continually.”

5. FIERY BIBLE PREACHING.

Hebrews 1:7b. “…and his ministers a flame of fire.”

6. MOVING OF THE HOLY GHOST.

John 16:8, “And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:”

7. AN OLD-FASHIONED ALTAR CALL.

Revelation 22:17, “And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.”

8. AN EFFECTIVE, PERSONAL WORKER.

Acts 8:35, “And Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.”

9. A CHURCH THAT VISIBLY REJOICED WHEN IT WAS ANNOUNCED THAT SOMEONE HAD TRUSTED CHRIST.

Acts 11:22a. “Then tidings of these things came unto the ears of the church which was in Jerusalem:”

Question: will you make sure these 9 “ancient landmarks” remain at your church so that decades later, someone might rejoice that the landmarks weren’t sadly and sinfully removed?
